Tomato Trophy: Self Portrait

This is the Tomato trophy I made out of plaster for my sculpture class this summer. The assignment was just to make a trophy for anyone for anything, so I made myself a trophy for surviving depression so far. When I teach Japanese at summer camp I go by the name Tomato, and it's really become my identity. The front of the trophy looks nice and shiny, but the back (not pictured) shows that the plaster cast collapsed when I poured it. The original glass tomato I made the cast from broke, and I glued it back together. This picture is actually a self portrait of who I am today. I'm still struggling really hard with my depression, and day to day I never know what my energy and mood will be like. I really do feel like something broken, and trying to maintain the facade of normality is exhausting.
